urban juxtapose
Here's a scene from this morning's subway ride:
INT. "6" LINE, SUBWAY CAR, MANHATTAN - MORNING
Presumably Homeless Man (PHM):
Pray for me, pray for me, I need somethng to eat. I'm hungry, I'm hungry, pray for me.
PHM begins to move through the car, jingling his coffee cup of change and waving a crutch.
PHM:
Pray for me, I'm hungry, I'm hungry, I'm hungry...
As PHM approaches the middle of the car, JOBS MAN appears at the other end and begins to hand out flyers.
JOBS MAN:
I got jobs, I got jobs, I got jobs...who needs a job? Who wants a job? I got jobs, I got jobs, I got jobs...
PHM and JOBS MAN pass each other without comment and continue their schtick at the same time.
PHM: I'm hungry, I'm hungry, pray for me, I'm hungry...
JOBS MAN: I got jobs, I got jobs, I got jobs...
Both men leave the subway car at opposite ends.

overheard
I was in MOMA yesterday -- the Queens version of the Museum of Modern Art. The "real" version, located in Manhattan, is under construction. Rather than close altogether, MOMA relocated to a smaller space in Long Island City.
I was about to hand my ticket to a staff person to enter the museum, when a woman, child in stroller, walked up to him. "There's more upstairs?" she said, in a pretty snotty tone. "No, m'am. Only on this floor." "That's it?! This is all there is?" "Yes, m'am," said the guard, looking increasingly perplexed, as the "Rebuilding MOMA" display was directly in the woman's line of sight. She huffed away.
The guard and I stared at each other for a moment, and we both cracked up. I said, "'Is this all there is?' Isn't this enough?!"
weekend update
It was a very, very, very good weekend, oh yes it was...
Saturday day: Waited for delivery, cleaned apartment. Woo. :P However, the rest of the weekend more than made up for it...
Saturday night: Dinner at Fatty's Cafe. I had a jalapeno turkey burger with a side of grilled asparagus. Mmmmmm. Even the salad was tasty -- your typical greens, a good vinaigrette, and apple slices.
Sunday: Bronx Zoo! Zoo zoo zoo! :) We saw lions and tigers and gorillas (uh, and bears) -- oh, my! You can see some of my zoo photos here. We went to Tiger Mountain and the Congo Gorilla Forest -- and will probably be going back over the summer (I want to see the Butterfly House).
Monday: Solo excursion to the Museum of Modern Art. A good day to go, as it was dismal and rainy. I'd wanted to see their Fashioning Fiction exhibit, and I also took a look at some of Dieter Roth's work as well. I must confess, I'd never heard of him before, but I really like many of his Op Art pieces. (The chocolate pieces, not so much.)
All good, all good. :)
